Yamba
On Tuesday the 1st December we left Woolgoolga and went to Yamba. I have never done as many short trips between locations in all our time caravanning. This was one of the longer ones and yet we were there by 10.30am. Check in time was not till 11am. These days you have to fill in a covid declaration at every location but with this one I could not do it online so we went there anyway as it had to be done at the counter. So that got us in earlier anyway. So we were able to set up and be ready to check things out on a walk before lunch. This van park is in a great location. It is right by the river and a short walk to the beach and to town. This was where we were situated. The sites are huge which meant being able to be hooked up on the last night.
This is the view to the cabins and there is a walkway behind them and the river is on the other side of the walkway.
We headed off for our walk over to the cabins and onto the footpath. The river looks great.
At the far end of the van park where the river also ends is the car park for the beach. The first beach is on the bay or river mouth and it is beautiful and peaceful, just right for kids, like me.
A bit further up the break wall kicks in and you come to the first ocean beach where a big surf kicks in and the surfers love it.
Above the car park is the lighthouse. A track leads up to it which was pretty handy. That higher vantage point gave us some more nice views.
It was a warm day and having walked up some hills Linda was feeling overheated. I knew there was a popular pub up on the Yamba hill so we headed there to cool down. The Pacific Hotel was not far as it turned out. It had magnificent views over Main Beach. So we got a drink and a table. Well it was lunch time wasn’t it. We had not planned on going out for lunch but when it happens spontaneously it makes it all the more better. So we had a beaut lunch and a few cool drinks and enjoyed the view.
A view of Yamba as we walked down to town.
Then once back at camp decided it was time for a swim. So we walked along the river to the little bay beach at the end of the van park. Had another great swim. So nice. On the way back to camp it was good to swim in the van park pool and get rid of the salt water.
Next day, after breakfast we took a drive out to the Angourie Pools which was only about 5kms away. Bluestone was mined in the old days there. The mining then wound up hitting fresh water springs and the holes filled up. One of the pools had to much algae for swimming. Another was being swum in but I think there was to much algae there too.
We went up to the headland and checked out the beach. It is popular with surfers. Nice beach on the southern side of the headland.
That day we also had a morning swim and an afternoon swim with another desalination swim in the park pool. What a life. We really enjoyed Yamba. I reckon it is a great spot. We also had a nice neighbour, Eric, who was travelling on his own. We had a few chats with him and a couple of drinks.
