Macksville & Bowraville

Image
On Thursday the 26th November we left Scotts Head and headed for Macksville. I considered staying at the free camp on the north side of the river, which can take only three vans. It is totally pathetic as a free camp. They are three trailer parking bays side by side on a tarred parking lot. Having seen what a bad spot it was we then headed for the North Macksville Caravan Park. This park is on the Nambucca River and on a large acreage. There are a large area of permanents but they are attractive lots and well done. There is a pool and a golf driving range. A great spot for $38 a night powered. After set up and lunch we took a drive to Bowraville. The hinterland is beautiful around there. The town has retained a lot of their old buildings. There is a lot of art deco. Several buildings have been done up very tastefully. We went back to Macksville and drove around town to check it out and then back to camp. Had a swim in the pool which was very nice. Then relaxed back at camp and en...

Scotts Head

On Tuesday the 24th November we were off to Scotts Head. This is the view as you crest the hill overlooking Scotts Head. Fitting on to the site in the van park was a chore because a light pole was right in the way of where I needed to swing around whilst backing the van in. However, nice neighbours were helpful in guiding me around. I wound up having to go close to about four neighbours vans and vehicles but that’s OK. So after setup and lunch we took a drive around town to get our bearings. Firstly we drove up overlooking Little Beach. Then to another of the headlands there for more nice views. The van park is adjacent to both Little Beach and Main Beach. Main Beach is just beautiful with crystal clear water and not much in the way of waves but it make it a beautiful swim. You can bet we were straight in for a swim. That night we went to the Bowling Club for dinner which was pretty good. In the morning we took a drive out to Grassy Head. It is a nice quiet spot, surrounded by ...

Kempsey

On Monday the 23rd of November we left Crescent Head. We took a drive with the van on and dropped in to Hat Head. We were prepared to stay if we liked it but we were not that impressed. It looked like there was some red weed at the beach there as well. The little inlet did not look impressive to us and otherwise there was really nothing there. Se we moved on and stayed at the Kempsey Showground. Again it was power and water for $20. Most showgrounds now shut their main gate at night which provides a good amount of security. There are some towns you need that more than most but staying in almost any town and not in a caravan park itself it is good to have precautions. That afternoon we had a look around town. I have always found the bridge and river a nice spot at Kempsey. We went to the Visitor Information Centre to find out what there was to see. I knew about the Slim Dusty Centre and was planning on doing that the next day. I found out, however, that it had still not reopened. ...
